🌿 A Bright, Balanced Cup from Kenya’s Highlands
This coffee comes from the hardworking members of the Mugaga Farmers Cooperative, processed at the well-respected Kiamabara Coffee Factory in the heart of Nyeri County — a region celebrated for producing some of Kenya’s most vibrant coffees.
At 1,900 meters, the high elevation and fertile volcanic soils help develop a sweet, complex cup. With notes of rich cocoa, zesty orange, and juicy pear, this filter brew strikes a beautiful balance between brightness and body.
📍 About Kiamabara Coffee Factory
Founded in 1995, Kiamabara is home to around 3,000 smallholder farmers who grow coffee alongside macadamia, maize, bananas, and beans. It’s part of the Mugaga Farmers’ Cooperative Society, located just outside Karatina Town in Mathira East.
The region enjoys cool temperatures (13–24°C), steady rainfall, and ideal conditions for slow cherry ripening — all key to the depth of flavor in every cup.
♻️ Clean, Careful Processing
Once harvested, coffee cherries are delivered to the nearby Ihara Factory for eco-conscious processing:
-
Washed with clean, recirculated water
-
Eco-friendly wastewater filtration using soil layers
-
Slow-dried on raised beds for even airflow
-
Hand-sorted and milled for maximum quality
This gentle, thoughtful approach keeps the coffee’s natural character intact — clean, sweet, and layered.
🌱 Sustainable Farming & Local Knowledge
All farmers are trained in sustainable, climate-smart agriculture, with support from Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture. From weeding and pruning to mulching and fertilizing, every step is rooted in tradition and science.
Farms are regularly visited by field officers to ensure best practices — like avoiding intercropping with maize and beans, while encouraging companion crops like macadamia.
🤝 Community-Led Management
Kiamabara is managed by a dedicated factory team and three representatives on the cooperative’s board. Their day-to-day work includes:
-
Weighing and grading incoming coffee
-
Processing payments fairly and promptly
-
Listening to farmer feedback and acting on it
It’s a model built on trust, transparency, and shared success.
